Postcards from Playa Del Carmen

Back to the frozen North, from balmy Mexico. I thought I would share these in a series, and all of these from the first set are my landscapes and other postcard shots.

We had a gorgeous time in Playa and I am really wishing that I was back there, especially as I sit here and edit and edit and edit. I feel like it was all a remarkable dream. Thank goodness for beautiful photos that I will look at with longing in the long days of winter.

I loved these sinks, but of course I don't need one.. and the logistics of getting one home.. and then installing it... only to realize it doesn't match my decor at all... beautiful anyways.

Cozumel. That's my parents driving in their sweet ride. We were with the kids in another VW something or other, not a Bug.. but some other rickety ride. It did have seat belts in the back seat though, so the kids were marginally safer.

Beautiful ocean and sky. We sure don't see that in Saskatchewan. Well we have a lot of sky, but not much sea around here.

Parrot at the resort. Despite the rustic photos we did stay in a very nice resort. ;)

What's all that sun without a little sand? My 5 year old's foot. I think we hit the beach every single day, and it was gorgeous. I miss it.

That's it for the postcard collection. Well, really there are a lot more but I have to stop somewhere. I wish I had that wealth of picturesque beauty and amazing buildings, and textures around here. I think I'll have to plan another trip back... maybe next time without kids? Hahaha I doubt it, I would miss them too much... and who would be left to photograph?

Naughty or Nice? Anyone's guess.

I get stir crazy and I end up marching my kids up to the wall next to the window... or rather my "studio". I realized that my Christmas card has still not gone out, and with a very reluctant husband (worse than the boys by far for patience in modeling) I thought that I would just have a kid card this year. Maybe we did that last year? I can't remember... and I am sure that no one else remembers what we sent last year either.

That's besides the point. So here we have to help Santa make that decision... naughty or nice? Hmm what do you think?

Awww nice for sure

More snapshots!

Because of the sub-arctic temperatures we are all forced indoors. This means that I get a little stir crazy and sadly photography takes a turn for the "staged and strange". Lucky for me I've got a very cute subject who willingly hams it up for the camera. I thought I would share some of our "Very Merry Christmas" set.

My always-cute and FREE model (if ever there was a reason to have a baby thats the most important).

Thanks for looking. Now if I could just get the older boy to be as willing a model, unfortunately he's a paid model now. Candy, cookies, money, everyone has their price.

HALLOWEEN!!

Happy Halloween! A friend of mine came over with her boys and we had a good time playing around with the kids and taking pictures of them. With 5 boys, 5 and under, it was a bit of chaos. There was a lot of noise, running bodies, shooting guns, and wrestling going on.

We managed to get some great photos, and having the boys dress up was really fun. Here is a HUGE share of the pictures we got.

My favorite boys in the whole world.

I thought I better take some pictures of my own gorgeous boys. Keep in mind all these photos had a cost... $5. My oldest son will only take direction for bribes, and of course only paper money will do. The baby takes no direction at all. In fact he did not want to look at the camera at all. So I felt fortunate to get the shots here without anyone ending up in tears (me mainly).

I had originally planned on taking them downtown to do an urban feel photoshoot... but then thought about trying to corral the two boys on my own and quickly changed my mind. I found this little strip of park near Grandma's house. The leaves are just starting to change colours and I was really pumped to see some beautiful red foliage.

I was not upset at all to see the graffiti on the bench. I think it makes the photo a little edgier and more exciting.

I am more than a little biased when I say that my boys are the most beautiful ever.

First Birthday Cake Smash!

My baby boy turned 1! I've been waiting to try this cake smash idea out and thought that this was the perfect moment... but apparently not. He was not impressed with my cupcakes, and was equally unimpressed that I was trying to take pictures. Oh well! Maybe next year right?

Old Fashioned Road Trip

How fortunate we have been! My family was able to spend 10 days on an old fashioned road trip with my parents. My husband and 2 boys and I crowded into my parents new mini-van for a road trip that would take us from Saskatoon, to Malta Montana, down to Great Falls then through Glacier National Park through British Columbia in Radium Hot Springs (both places my husband and children have never been) then to Calgary Alberta and then back home. It was a whirlwind adventure that had ups and downs. Thankfully my husband is a good sport and put up with my parents, getting to know them in ways maybe he never wanted to. HAH! The whole time I found such beauty in the mountains and forest that I never wanted to come home to the bald prairies. Oh well, here I am again and I can see many more trips to the mountains with our boys. I am so glad to have been able to share this with my whole family. It has definitely been a lesson on patience, love, family and beauty. All the following pictures were taken by me on my Dad's point & shoot camera (YES!) in Glacier National Park.

Great Family!

This was a really awesome family that I have known since my oldest son was just a baby. They were such great models and I am thrilled that they suggested this location. It just has so many possibilities and was really fun to find good places to take pictures. We had just wrapped up due to some dark clouds rolling in when the sound of thunder started. On the way back to the car Mike (my husband and reluctant assistant) and I had to run because it just started pouring!! So I am exceedingly thrilled that we managed to get these pictures without all of us getting caught in the storm.

These girls were so pretty. I could not believe how much they had grown since I had last seen them, the littlest was only a few months old. Its amazing how much they can change and grow in a year and a half.

The littlest girl had the most gorgeous light blue eyes (and of course at this age was not interested in the crazy lady making noise and shoving the camera in her face). The older girl is now such a sweet little lady, I still remember her and my son being roly poly babies and I am blown away at how they are turning into such amazing little people.

Hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them and developing them. Thank you!!!

What a good sport!

My friend agreed to come down and take some test photos for me. I think she did a fabulous job, and I am super psyched about some of the locations that we found while wandering around the downtown area.
